Dear HBSMR ArcView users
Following the user group meeting in Preston, with discussion of the GIS
sub-group paper and the issues surrounding ArcView 8.1, we have been
reviewing our strategy for developing the ArcView link.
Because many sites will probably be using ArcView 3.2 for at least another
year, we have now decided to release an upgraded version of the current
ArcView mapping module.
The main areas of improved functionality will be:
- improved linking to attributes from the database. It is hoped that this
will use a live link via ODBC. This will hopefully be user-configurable (by
advanced system administrators), so that as many fields as required can be
linked to spatial features, including fields from related tables like
MonType. A mechanism for viewing Memo fields may also be included if
possible.
- improved programme flow and error handling when moving between HBSMR and
ArcView and when entering new records.
- ability to pass a set of monument records selected in the GIS to the HBSMR
database to run reports etc.
This will be a free upgrade to users with an annual support contract. The
improved functionality will only be available to users who have upgraded to
HBSMR V2.10.
We hope to release the upgrade in February 2002.
Best wishes and Happy New Year
Crispin
