It is often tempting to compare archaeological specimens to extant
breeds, but obviously this path is fraught with dangers. Better to
compare contemporary collections and try to work out common patterns.
Towards this end I recommend Sylvia looks at the work done by Jenny Coy
and Jennifer Bourdillon on the Melbourne Street material (Saxon Hamwih).
This site provided a large number of goat horncores and the analysis,
with comparisons to European material, is well worth a read.
