Hi!
As I remember, does not exist records of coyote (Canis latrans) in Mesoamerica, all of these remains are identified as Canis sp., dog (C. familiaris) or wolf (C. lupus). But, you can see this reference:
Álvarez, T. y A. Ocaña. 1999. Sinopsis de restos arqueozoologicos de vertebrados terrestres (basado en los informes del Laboratorio de Paleozoologia del INAH). Col Científica 386. CONACULTA-INAH, México.
and references herein. And I believe in last year was published a report from Teotihuacan and mentioned some canid (sorry, I don't have at hand the reference).
You can obtain more information with my friends Dr. Joaquín Arroyo ([log in to unmask])or to Oscar Polaco, both researchers at (currently named) Laboratorio de Arqueozoología at INAH.
Cheers
