Can anyone offer any advise on a pig maxilla (possibly medieval date)?
My query is:
On the buccal side, the bone appears to be abraded to the extent that the M1
& M2 tooth roots are exposed and also abraded, the roots are flattened
following the bone profile. M1 and M2 are in late stages of wear and are
discoloured when compared with P4 and M3 (M3 is fully erupted and in wear).
This abrasion has the appearance of occurring anti-mortem but I cannot see
how, given the expected covering of cheek tissues. Any help in determining
a possible cause for this condition would be very much appreciated. I have
photo's available which I can mail to individual addresses if this will
help.
Thanks to all,
Ray.
