SCIENCE CENTRE FUNDING ADMINISTRATION
The Wellcome Trust is the world's largest medical research charity. Our
mission is to foster and promote research with the aim of improving human
and animal health. We are equally dedicated to informing and encouraging
debate among the wider public about advances in biomedical research and
their possible implications. To this end we have made a major contribution
to the development of science centres in the UK.
Together with the Millennium Commission and the Wolfson Foundation we are
now establishing a fund for the renewal of interactive science and
technology exhibits in science centres. As a result we are seeking two
people to assist with the general management of this Fund as well as other
Wellcome Trust grant schemes that support practice in public engagement with
science.
PROGRAMME ASSISTANT (from £25,000 + benefits)
The Programme Assistant will work primarily on the science centre renewal
fund and will be responsible for managing the grant applications and
providing advice on the scheme. Duties will include the selection of
referees, preparation of papers for meetings of advisory and awarding
committees, and following up grants once awarded.
You should have a relevant degree and preferably a post-graduate
qualification with at least two years' experience of science communication
or public engagement with science. You will need to be able to demonstrate a
broad interest in research, and its translation and application in society.
GRANTS ADMINISTRATOR (from £21,500 + benefits)
The Grants Administrator will provide administrative support across the
range of grant schemes. As a skilled administrator you will be responsible
for processing grant applications using the Trust's computerised systems,
liasing with applicants, maintaining a grants database and attending
committee meetings.
You should be a graduate with at least two years' relevant administrative
experience ideally gained in a grants awarding organisation. An accurate and
methodical approach to work is essential, together with numeracy and
communication skills.
