A reminder that on Tuesday 29 January at 5.30pm Sir Harry Kroto FRS will
deliver the Society's annual Michael Faraday Award Lecture entitled,
'Science, a round peg in a square world'.
The Michael Faraday Award is presented to the scientist, who in the opinion
of the Council of the Royal Society has done most to further in the United
Kingdom an understanding of the role of science, engineering or technology
in society.
The Award consists of a silver gilt medal and a prize of £2,500. The
recipient of the Award is invited to give a lecture as part of the Society's
annual Public Programme of events.

A synopsis of the lecture follows:
Science, a round peg in a square world
by Sir Harold Kroto FRS
In this award lecture Harold Kroto will discuss the importance of
communicating science to public audiences and will also argue that only a
greater understanding of how everyday life is critically balanced with
science will ensure our future survival. Harold Kroto is currently a
research professor at the University of Sussex, he carries out a formidable
schedule of lectures, workshops, media programmes and interviews and is also
chairman of the Vega Science Trust, which produces science programmes for
network television. In 1996 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry.
