(why ask a question when you are not going to be here to get the answer?)
as one builds a readership one at a time, so one persuades...
Why write poetry? Why talk about it? Surely your criticism of talking about
international politics applies to poetry. But also what kind of poetry is it
which ignores the world?
Why write poetry if one has no politics? Not that one can have no politics.
How much of the content / subject of poetry is separable from political
matters?
For myself, I am trying to be clear in my expression and in that of others.
I am trying to understand by discussion and by following discussions.
Such attention makes one aware of how disjunctive some arguments are and how
illogical
I am trying to see how sincere others are when they post - are they
similarly engaged or are they playing silly games?
I am trying to clear sentimentality from myself and others. I don't want to
be sentimental. I don't want to read sentimental writing.
It is not a general campaign, wch wld be like approaching the sea with a
spoon; wch is why yr sneer about going on a demo missed the point - perhaps
that is partly me, but only partly
and also it is pleasant to protest even if few hear it before we are killed
by cheats and hypocrites

Subject: Question for list
| Why do we waste our time arguing international politics on a poetry
| list (not that I haven't been plenty guilty!)?
|
| NOT A SOUL BEYOND OUR VIRTUAL SOULS IS LISTENING
| except for maybe George Oppen, and he's rolling like a turbine
| shaft in his grave.
|
| Adios for a week. Going fishing.
