Dear Glenn,
No need to apologize. From my perspective,
it was an interesting rant that raised serious issues.
In my view, some of the specific ways that you
stated things are open to challenge, but I infer from
your latest now that you have challenged your own
thoughts a bit since yesterday.
Knowing you, I thought that perhaps you were
blowing off a bit of steam, but regardless the
conclusions, the issues deserve airing. I had thought
about chiming in after thinking through the ideas
and issues.
There are multiple and complex relations between
research and practice, between research and teaching,
and between educational issues and professional
concerns.
That's one of the points of this on-line conference,
and I was happy to see you raise these issues. Others
offered thoughtful responses. I'd like the thread to move
forward, and I'd be happy to have you deepen your
own ideas. If you want to reshape some of the
challenges you offer into more articulate and robust
form, why not? You are among friends.
Warm wishes,
Ken

I used it for 'venting' as a manifestation of design
frustration elsewhere, using one of my ill considered
and uninformed perennial rants.
Sorry, and thanks for not coming down on me like
a ton of bricks. Will look elsewhere if the urge to rant
takes over again.
