However, it is not just abstractions that trouble me. I am also
concerned about two things.
Firstly that threads seem to burn out far too quickly, before
issues can be explored fully. However, the discussion is in the
hands of those that subscribe, and I would not wish to moderate
it.
Secondly I have concerns about the depth of debate. This form of
asynchronous communication is well suited to thoughtful and
substantial contributions (for example Ken Friedman) as well as
individuals dropping in from time to time with well considered
commentary (for example David Sless whilst on the move). But it
is also open to shoot-from-the-lip opinionated commentary, not
backed by evidence or justified except in the most vague way (add
whoever here...). This is not a chatline, and we have expected
to engender deep, sustained debate over time, so it is a little
disappointing at times.
