Dear Richard:
I hope see you in Brazilia this year. I'm not sure if I will be there,
because I could not write a paper at time, but maybe i find resources to
attend the conference.
In relation to the Philosophy of Design, sometime ago i was a little
confused by the way of philosophy of design was presented in the Design
Studies Journal. I was confused because Galle's editorial say that
philosophy of design is that philosophers of design do.
Initially I was thinking i was very entuthiastic on my critics, but after
reading some papers I found that terms like phenomenology, language and
others were not suficiently clear for phylosophics purposes.
That is just a little critic. It's not my intention to extend this point.
We are working in some very unusseful... we are trying to understand what is
design, how is and why exist and it is like it is. We are not using as
reference the scientific method, because for us philosophy is not science
and don't need their method.
I think at the end of our research we will looking for responses to
questions like: Is design a metaphysics, a rethoric, a belief?
But nowadays we are trying to find a conceptual framework to understand
design based on phenomenology and pós-structuralism. We were very seduced by
the pre-reflexive stage of being (from Heiddeger and Merleau-Ponti). This
made us to think in Henri Bergson and his concepts of intuition and
duration. Gilles Deleuze made a reading of Bergson and wrote a theory of
Multiplexity that is very opportune to our understanding of design as a
process of differentiation (i'm not sure on this translation).
We are writing a paper and I will be very greatful if you could make any
comment before publishing.
Thanks a lot.
