The University of Hong Kong is a leading international comprehensive

Research Assistant Professor in Chinese Music/Music of China
Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor
in Chinese Music/Music of China in the Department of Music, tenable on or
before July 31, 2003. The appointment, which is subject to availability of
funding, will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis.
Applicants should have expertise in one or several areas of Chinese music,
including historical and/or ethnomusicological research, such as musics of
non-Han ethnic groups living in China, diasporic studies, and popular
forms. Interest in a secondary research area, including but not restricted
to other East Asian traditional or popular musics, as well as familiarity
with innovative research methods and a demonstrated commitment to
cross-disciplinary work would be advantage.
The main focus of an Research Assistant Professor's duty is research. The
appointee can however be assigned teaching duties, up to 50% of the normal
teaching load. Applicants should be research active and have a proven
publication record. Appointments will be made usually on the first point
of the 4-point salary scale HK$45,210 - $48,495 - $51,740 - $55,020 per
month (which is subject to review from time to time in accordance with the
University's established mechanism). A contract-end gratuity and
University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to
15% of basic salary, is provided. The appointment carries leave, and
medical/dental benefits.
