The swemp 2002 conference should be an interesting forum for discussion on
the environment and the effects of mining. Registration fees are
unfortunately set at 'professional' levels at Euro550.

>Some good reasons for joining:
>
>- Sardinia boasts a centuries old mining history (base metals, iron
ore, coal, industrial minerals, silver and gold, dimensional stone);
>
>- A great number of mines, processing plants, smelters, refineries
and chemical plants have been put into operation since Roman times;
>
>- Unfortunately, large portions of the land and the sea are now
heavily affected by mining (soil and water pollution, dumps and tailings
embankments, landscape deterioration, safety, slope instability and subsidence);
>
>- A very important rehabilitation plan is being carried out in the
abandoned mining areas throughout the Island;
>
>- The wealth of industrial archaeology has been recognised by
UNESCO and it is being recovered and preserved in the frame of a unique
Geo-Mining Heritage Park;
>
>- To the best success of this huge effort the International
Scientific Community and the Industries can contribute by offering knowledge
and actions;
>
>Aiming at this, SWEMP 2002 provides an outstanding opportunity. Please,
give a special consideration to the chance of participating by presenting
papers on any of the various topics of the program and by attending the
conference.
>
>Participants will find:
>
>- A leading technical program based on the contributions of Authors
and exhibitors from various Countries in the world;
>
>- Friendly atmosphere for meetings, contacts and discussion (…and
business);
>
>- A number of very interesting field visits during the conference
period;
>
>- Accommodation in a pleasant Hotel by the sea near the city of
Cagliari;
>
>- An charming social program and tourist attractions;
>
>- Options for post-Conference tours.
