This course is being run by UKOLUG early next year and may interest colleagues on the list. With changes in the law of copyright hopefully having "bedded down" somewhat by March, and covering a range of topics relevant to members of the list, the Meeting may well be of interest. It's being run in alternative venues but content and issues to be covered are the same, and the presenters are already liaising closely on the content.

Copyright is ubiquitous. It subsists in diverse works - literary works, photographs, moving images, audio works etc. that information professional confront on a daily basis. Information and communications technologies facilitate the dissemination, integration and exploitation of copyright works in supporting the activities of many organisations. Intranets, virtual or managed learning environments, email, the Internet etc. all shape the use and exploitation of copyright works. However, works protected by copyright must be used strictly in conformity with the law of copyright - which can be ambiguous and which has undergone important recent changes. This course seeks to raise awareness of copyright issues that are most relevant in a digital environment. It does not seek to provide legal advice on particular problems. Rather it aims to equip information professionals with a knowledge of the major issues confronting them in coping with copyright in a digital world.
