News Release: New UKOLUG award for public sector
UKOLUG Announces Award for Innovative Use of Electronic Resources in the
Public Sector
NOVEMBER 2001 - UKOLUG is pleased to announce an addition to its set of
awards and bursaries. A one-time award is being offered to a public sector
library or library authority to celebrate innovative use of electronic resources.
UKOLUG is encouraging members to nominate libraries to receive the £2,000
award. If you know of a particular worthy service offering electronic resources
to members of the public, you may nominate it for the award.
The award, as well as a smaller award to the nominator, will be presented
during the UKOLUG Conference in Birmingham in June 2002. A panel of
judges will select the most innovative, noteworthy and useful application.
While setting no limit on the range of uses that may be nominated, UKOLUG
suggests that innovative means of presenting or delivering information to
particular user groups, significant electronic resources presenting an unusual
range or type of information, or innovative electronic ways of drawing in users
may be the kinds of activity to attract the award.
Nominations should take the form of a brief description (perhaps one A4
page) of the resource and its intended users, as well as details of the location
and the library or authority, and contact names and details for both the
nominator and the nominee. Please try to make your descriptions as detailed
as possible and specify both the type of resource and the target user group; it
may help to offer some assessment of its success.
Nominations should reach the UKOLUG administrator at the address below
no later than the 31st January 2002. A winner will be announced during the
following May.
