***********************************************************************
MIMAS and the British Library are pleased to announce the following
enhancements to the zetoc Service and to mention that we are fast
approaching the 20 million record mark - 19,038,181 records as of 7th May
2002.
1) ILL - Document Supply Mechanism
==================================
zetoc gives users the option to order a journal article or conference paper
via inter-library loan (ILL). A link at the bottom of the full record
display page takes the user to an ILL page where they are able to get
assistance in making an ILL request.
Institutions have the option to customise this ILL page. zetoc provides two
main options for institutions to choose from:
- ILL Form
Selecting this option means that a user from your institution will be able
to create a printable form that can be used as an ILL request form. It
includes the user's personal details, the details of the item required and a
full copyright declaration. The form can be signed and dated by the user and
taken or sent to the ILL department, together with the appropriate payment.
- Local
Selecting this option means that the user will be able to see the
bibliographic details of the item they wish to request and will have a link
to the ILL service provided by their own institution. The amount of
information provided on this page will depend upon the preferences of the
individual institution. It may, for example, include links to the Library's
catalogue.
A third default option, reinforcing good practice, is used if an institution
has not submitted a preference.
Fuller details are available at

2) Electronic Document Delivery from the British Library, Boston Spa
====================================================================
Users purchasing journals articles and conference papers directly from the
British Library Document Supply Centre can now request electronic delivery,
in addition to the first class mail, 2 & 12 hour fax and courier. The
material will be available for download in PDF. Initially, material
published by Karger and Kluwer will be available, equating to some 100,000
documents, though more are to follow.
3) Use Reference Manager, End Note and ProCite to search zetoc
==============================================================
MIMAS have been working with ISI ResearchSoft to enable users of their
bibliographic software packages to exploit zetoc. The latest version of
Reference Manager, version 10, has a connection to zetoc, enabling users to
undertake a remote search. A filter to enable importing of references is not
currently integrated into Reference Manager, but a filter is provided on the
zetoc web pages for users to download into their copy of Reference Manager
10, as for ProCite (for which thanks are due to Joachim Herring of De
Montfort University). The filter and connection file for EndNote have also
been updated are are due to be shipped with the next version of EndNote,
version 6.
4) Feedback and Enhancement Requests
====================================
MIMAS and colleagues in the Dept of Human Sciences at Loughborough
University are co-ordinating an evaluation exercise and establishing a list
of possible enhancements to the zetoc Service and zetoc Alert. A
questionnaire will be circulated and made accessible on the web shortly.
Please participate!
Note: the on-going development of the zetoc service is funded by the British
Library and JISC as part of the ‘Join-Up’ Programme.
