We have been having problems with lipincott wiliams & wilkins (LWW) journals.
all of these allow single user access with the print subscription.
Circulation - this title works OK & allowed us to register our IP
addresses for single-concurrent user. this operates via highwire.
For AIDS and also for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, when we tried to
activate the online licence, it said the subscription had already been
activated. for the latter it also thought that we belonged to one of the
UK Universities (which we don't). these 2 titles do not as yet use
highwire (unfortunately, as I think this is the cause of the problem)
they are subscribed via SwetsBlackwell FastPlus service. Swets have
automatically set up Access on SwetsNetNavigator which works at their end,
until the LWW site takes over & asks us to log in. Swets keep chasing up
the publisher & everytime the publisher give us the same sub IDs which say
they have already been activated. this has been going on for several months.
Another problem we have has is with our IDEAL IPL Licence to Biologicals.
the licence is for single-concurrent usage. It worked fine last year
(after a few weeks to get it activated), by IP control.
for the IPL licence you have to physically reregister for access every year
as if it was a new subscription. I did this for 2002 back in November and
Informed Swets of the resulting licence number to quote on payment
etc. since the New Year, Access has terminated. On Investigation it
appears that Academic Press have not yet banked the cheque Swets sent them
in November.
It is linked to our existing Print subscription - copies are arriving
OK. luckily for us we only have one title under the IPL licence, as it
looks like having to reregister each year means you lose access for a
couple of months whilst Academic Press process their records.
