Dear All,
As you may be aware some conflicting advice about the impact of the
CLA licence on current administration and practice has been circulating,
principally on lis-medical.
In view of the confusion that has arisen and the lack of clear guidance from
central organisations, and after discussions with David Stewart at HCLU, the
following advice is being issued to all LIHNN members.
1) You may copy articles up to the limits prescribed by the new
CLA licence.
2) These limits also apply to library-to-library copying (ILL)
between NHS libraries only.
Libraries outside the NHS (ie: BMA, BLDSC, Liverpool Medical
Institution) can only supply at the level specified under Fair
Dealing.
Until informed otherwise, the Isle of Man is included in the
agreement.
3) Be aware of the excluded publishers/publications, ie: European
Respiratory Journal and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
Copies can only be supplied under Fair Dealing because of their
CLA excluded status.
4) Current practice should not be altered. Signed declarations
must be obtained for all requests and arrangements made for
their storage for the specified period.
This advice will be revised as and when confirmed directions are
issued by CLA and/or the NHS.
Regards
Graham Titley
Rochdale
David Stewart
