I suggest you get hold of issue 16/17 of "Obliques". It's a double issue
dedicated solely to Robbe-Grillet's films. It's unfortunately in French, but
in a valuable asset to anyone interested in his films, and among other
things you'll find Robbe-Grillet's own scenario and synopsis for < L'homme
qui ment >, as well as several essays by both Robbe-Grillet and Michel Fano
with specific attention brought upon the problem of image vs. sound.
I assume you already know of the book "The Erotic Dream Machine - Interviews
with Robbe-Grillet on his films". Not only in the chapter on < L'homme qui
ment >, but all the way throught the book, is the issue of sound/image in
relation to Michel Fano raised.
A more obcure source is the interview you'll find in the French press
material for < Le Jeu avec le feu >. Here he discusses briefly the tought of
structuring a film by means of musical themes, an idea he worked on very
explicitly in this film.
Thure Munkholm.
