I think it great that we may now consider the works of Godard et al to a
larger extent - that is, if we are prepared to discuss such works in the
context of cinema, as opposed merely complaining about the lack of
alternative focus in the group. Indeed, I believe the view that we need to
take is that cinematography is less a vehicle for existing philosophical
ideals, but as a form of philosophising in itself. In this way I think we
may get around to insightful and enlightening discussion on those whose
films merit far more than debates on cinema as an industrial, culturally
singular entity. As I believe the introductory e-mail to this list
suggested, there are many other film lists out there for fans; personally I
wish the opportunity to theorise with like minded students of cinema; if
anyone else feels the same way (or wants to challenge my opinions) then
please let me know.
