While I am slightly hesitent to do so, I'll toss two things in here:
one, having recently received and subscribed to this, I posted the URL on a web Forum which a bit by default I sort of moderate (long story I will skip here). It is called Cinema Electronica, and while ostensibly rooted in Digital Video (it was begun by DV.com but after a major corporate snafu the participants decided to make their own site, and run the thing themselves). URL:
http://www.verticalplunge.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi
While allegedly about Digital media, it in fact wanders far afield into film, politics, art, philosophy, technical matters, and so on. On posting the film-philosophy salon url it begot a more or less caustic response which you are welcome to go check out.
Secondly, while I imagine the fickle tides of film have long since overwhelmed whatever minor interest there might have been, I wish to announce I will be on tour in USA (and can be elsewhere) come autumn. I being Jon Jost, ex-filmmaker turned into digital media whatever, making DV works, often long, seldom narrative; and presently also doing installation works, one due up in Roma (where I live) in May; another opening at the Zentrum fur Kunst und Media (ZKM) Karlsruhe, come Oct-Nov - it involves ten ;arge screens. At all events I will be touring USA beginning around Oct 20 through early December, and am looking for screening/lecture/workshops. Presently and heavily booked in mid-west and south: Cincinnatti, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Chicago so far firmly taken. Probably NYC, DC, others.
If interested, let me know: Jon Jost [log in to unmask]
vicolo di S. Rufina, 50 00153 Roma, Italia Tel and Fax: (0039) 06 581 4759
If you wish to check my thoughts a little web search will find a number of modestly recent talks, some given in academic settings, some not.
