Robert,
Have you come across an Argentinian film site called www.otrocampo.com in
which there is an absolutely brilliant essay by Adrian Martin on Australian
film culture. At www.thefilmjournal.com he has a very good little piece on
Altman's Kansas City too. I was recently in contact with him in relation to a
piece on Paul Cox' Cactus, a film I have hitherto adored, but a combination
of reading his level-headed 1986 review, some serious thinking, and my seeing
the film in the cold light of 21st century day, as it were, made me see it in
a fresh aspect. The result appears at thefilmjournal.com next month (for what
that's worth!) Anyway, he is, as you say, one of the best film writers
currently working and there is probably heaps more work out there.
The other day I posted a note regarding awards/prizes for film writing. Does
anyone have any thoughts about this?
