Hello Clark,
First sorry Clark, got so intent on the thinking part have been forgetting
to say hello.
CG:
Sartre also did plays however. Further I think that the way he put and did
his philosophy has many helpful places to think about film as philosophy. I
know you want to focus on how film as motion picture is different from
those. However I think that first we have to ask how we can do philosophy
outside of the boundaries of traditional quoting and arguing.
DS:
Quick response, writing a screen play for a movie is different from shooting
a movie. A stage play relies upon real people on a stage. We want to use
movies like words, rather than think about the comparison to plays.
The distinction is important. We are looking at the language like use of
movies. What does that mean? A play is not a language like use of seeing.
The language is in the words in the play. Understanding a movie in a
language like way is transformative! A new world view! An unlimited
expansion of what we are doing with movies. A vast breakthrough!
Thanks,
Doyle Saylor
