Creation of the National Archives: meeting with stakeholders at University
College, London on 5 November and wider consultation
Invitations have now been sent out through the Royal Historical Society to
a wide variety of stakeholders to discuss the development of the National
Archives which will be created on 1 April 2003 by combining the Historical
Manuscripts Commission and the Public Record Office. Attendance is
necessarily limited owing to the number of interests involved, but the
Commission is keenly aware that many individual users, owners and
custodians of archives and manuscripts may wish to make their views known.
We would very much like to have your views about the kind of services you
would like to see the National Archives (and the continuing 'HMC' functions
within it) deliver, or to hear of any concerns you may have which we must
take into account in developing the new body and its services.
Please write to the Secretary, Dr Chris Kitching, Historical Manuscripts
Commission, Quality House, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1HP,
or by e-mail to [log in to unmask] Any views expressed will be considered
by the Commissioners of the HMC at their next meeting on 6 November.
