MEDICAL STATISTICIAN

We are seeking a practically-minded, enthusiastic and innovative
medical statistician to work within a large interdisciplinary
research group in brain imaging. The initial focus is on contributing
to a multicentre collaborative study of "Accurate, practical and cost
effective assessment of carotid stenosis in the UK" which will
involve undertaking a systematic review of the accuracy of non-
invasive carotid imaging and analysis of individual patient data from
participating centres. Subsequently a major role will be to advise
on, and assist with, the design and analysis of clinical brain
imaging research projects, including preparing reports for
publication, and supporting the Scientific Committee of the SHEFC
Brain Imaging Research Centre for Scotland.
The job does NOT involve image analysis.
A good Honours degree in statistics, public health (or a related
subject with statistics as the major component), and at least two
years experience of statistical work in a health-related area is
required. A further postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc or PhD) is
preferable.
Experience of collaborative medical research and an interest in the
design, conduct, analysis and systematic reviews of studies of
diagnostic tests would be an advantage. The applicant will be based
in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (home to the Cochrane
Database of Systematic Reviews Stroke Review Group) and will work
closely with several other statisticians in it and related
departments. Funding is for three years in the first instance. Salary
