The decreasing values make it unlikely that the elevation is due to heterophile antibodies. Another possibility might be mechanical injury. There is a letter to the editor in Clin Chem (47) No.7, 2001, p.1328-9 where a misplaced venous catheter was detected by unsuspected increased troponin values.

Has any participant with the beckman ACCESS (r) accuTNI assay experienced
any false positives?
I have a current pediatric inpatient who is very asymptomatic except for an
otitis and an episode of chest pain for which we have had three elevated
TnI(s) over 24 hours 3.25 2.57 2.08 (ng/mL) all were repeated and
confirmed. In addition, she had elevated troponins at two outside
institutions. No other abnormal labs.
Does any member have experience with heterophile AB interference on the
accuTNI as there was on the previous generation of beckman assay?
Thanks
