At Princess Alexandra, Harlow our routine U&E profile consists of Na, K and creatinine. We only do urea for ITU/renal unit patients or if specifically requested. This seems to work well with few complaints although it is confusing when the new junior doctors start and we have to explain that a U&E doesn't contain a "U".
Hope this helps

Subject: creatinine and not urea
Hello all !
I would be interested to know if any laboratories have tried stopping
measuring urea in favour of creatinine, as part of a larger panel ('urea and
electrolytes') or otherwise.
I would be interested to hear of any positive of negative experiences.
