We patients in Valencia, Spain have direct access to
all of our lab results, even before the GP or hospital
consultant sees them. Why? Because it is the patients
responsibility to collect the results when they become
available and make a further appointment to see the GP
or consultant. This may seem longwinded but the
process, of seeing a GP to having specialist hospital
treatment, is in my experience ,about 3 times faster
than that in the UK.
Giving the responsibility to the patient will probably
cause alarm and horror in "fast becoming nanny state2
UK.
