We run a large paediatric diabetic clinic staffed by paediatric endocrinologists. We
have had no requests for C peptide as an annual review. On occasion in a difficult to
manage case we have done C-peptide but it has never been really helpful. On the
other hand we are getting increased numbers of requests for C-peptide and insulin in
children suspected of having insulin resistance syndromes such as MODY, who are
often severely obese and I have little doubt that these are here to stay.
Ask your paediatrician for evidence for his protocol.
No evidence = no test.
