Has anyone any experience of the SureStep Paracetamol/salicylate
Screening Test being marketed in the UK by Euromed Primary Care Ltd at
approx £7 per slide ?
I was shown a summary paper on work done in the A&E dept at St Mary's
Hospital, London W1 on 49 patients.
The idea is to use it as a "rule out" and allow earlier discharge.
The sensitivities quoted in the paper are 2 mg/L for paracetamol (whole
blood) and 13 mg/L salicylate !!!
As a POCT enthusiast I wecome good tests but have some concerns among
them the following.
Too sensitive in practice?
Do users misinterpret the results - a "positive" screen is the lack of
appearance of a band. This is in contrast to other "slides" such as the
Clearview pregnancy test used in A&E.
