How long should you wait after a blood transfusion before taking blood for
routine biochemistry? Our haematology department says allow 30 minutes
before checking FBC. Our senior phlebotomist thought that you should wait
about 2 hours before taking biochemistry samples, but we have nothing in
writing nor can we find evidence to support this view. I appreciate that
that there are several variables that need to be considered, including the
number of units given and clinical state of the patient that might make it
difficult to give a simple answer to this question. Recommendations and
views of others would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
