Dear Dr Pearson,
When I first joined Basildon I conducted a preliminary audit so I could see
what equipment was in place POCT, together with how it was being used and
looked after by the ward/department staff. The area's looked at were the
equipment, internal QC and recording and training.
The findings were and are still being reported to the individual
directorates and I believe there has been some positive results from this,
when I re audit in sept/oct I will discover if there has been progress.
The standards I worked to were:
1. Equipment - support info such as manuals, short form instructions
available.
2. Consumables - Stored correctly, sealed and within expiry dates.
3. Quality control - being performed and recorded
4. Staff attending training sessions
This is and will remain a very simple audit to check on equipment and how it
is being used as I believe we must get the basics right to ensure POCT is
producing reliable accurate results.
I hope this gives you some feedback.
Regards
Tracy Cook

Subject: Audit in POCT
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has conducted audits in
POCT.
In managing POCT, we all collect large amounts of data of various
types, but has anyone actually used data in the "audit cycle" to improve
the service at all - or explicitly designed an audit?
