If I may indulge in a tale of times gone by (some of
you from Leeds may recall this one).
It was late on Christmas Eve, when everybody was at
home or in some bar celebrating, our Lab received a
call from the Coroner. The police forensic lab
couldn't be contacted and the coroner was an
ex-registrar in our lab. He asked if we could do a
carbon monoxide on a deceased person found burnt to
death in a caravan near in Leeds. We agreed, and the
sample duly arrived by "one of our boys in blue". The
sample was found to contain little or no CO. From then
on a successful murder inquiry was carried out, the
accused put to justice and the lab was not involved at
all.
Too much "watch my back" mentality? If you have good
operating practices the lab has nothing to fear.
