The title (but not the content) of this letter reminds me of a lecture that was given at the Focus meeting in Glasgow.
The main point of the lecture was to rename Consultant Chemical Pathologists as Consultant Clinical (or Medical) Biochemists and to rename Consultant Clinical Biochemists as Consultant Clinical Scientists (Biochemistry) - or something like that - in order to avoid confusion.
It is my view that there is currently no confusion; medical consultants are called Consultant Chemical Pathologists and non-medical consultants are called Consultant Clinical Biochemists. To change this would seem to add confusion where there is currently none. I am not clear why this suggestion was made in the first place, but, for whatever reason, I beieve it to be a retrograde step.

Subject: Chemical Pathologists / Clinical Scientists as Teachers
There seems to be quite a lot at the moment focussed on teaching and
training in the medical press eg see BMJ this week. I know that some of you
out there are heavily involved in teaching, be it through writing books or
lectures/tutorials etc. In the current culture of reducing the burden of
factual knowledge for medical students and attempting to breakdown the
pre-clinical/clinical divide I would be very interested in colleagues views
(UK and outside) about how best we can ensure that relevant and interesting
biochemistry is taught, to give a junior doctor the practical knowledge of
clinical chemistry he/she will need to manage the patient.
Thanks
