I was told that patients can get the QC solutions free on prescription. It
could be a new thing from Roche, or only for certain meters. Presumably
other manufacturers do this already or may follow suit.
The provision of placing meters with patients and teaching of
patients on how to use glucose meters we leave to our Diabetic Nurse
specialists. who choose which type of meter depending on the patients
individual needs.
The training we give the nurse specialists is only aimed for them as
hospital staff doing tests on patients. We train them on the meter, which is
the same one used throughout the majority of the trust. They are welcome to
apply our training and QC practice to patients if they wish.
I hope this is helpful.

Subject: Checking patients glucose meters
Our diabetes department has asked me if I could come up with a quality
control solution they could use to check patients glucose meters when they
come to clinic.
My simple plan to create a glucose solution with some azide and then
generate a range using laboratory analysers and some glucose meters. Do I
need to get more complicated?
Does anyone else provide this service and if so what do you do?
