We're too busy doing our jobs - dealing with patients "clinical needs"!
I have the document in my brief case and have carried it back and forth
without opening it so have had to set aside a specific time on Friday to
look at it and comment. My first thought is that there is a lot about
"Pathology will be driven by the needs of the patient" - did you spot
the missing word "clinical" before "need" (see above). It is the same
throughout the bits of the document I have flicked through. I suspect
this is a consumerist agenda that needs resisting, or am I just being
old-fashioned in thinking that there should not be open access to
pathology tests ?
First thoughts on standardisation - I remember some attempts at
standardisation in some regions to do with computer systems that were
not a conspicuous success, - and as far as analysers are concerned,
there isn't a best buy - its horses for courses. As far as standard
panels, I am in potential dispute with our hepatologists who want a
different LFT panel to the GPs. We are getting more and more concerned
about commercial support for products we use so I would hate to think
that competition was further diminished by some government inspired
limited list of products we could purchase.
Enough for starters, Rick ?
