I recently received a request from an oncologist (husband of one my
colleagues) for a 50H tryptophan (5-HTP) level in a patient with carcinoid.
We informed him that it wasnt available so that he would have to settle for
5HT or 5HIAA levels instead. He settled on 5HT but insisted that his recent
texts supported the use of 5-HTP. I did some of my own checking and
confirmed this fact. Do any participants get this request and if so, how do
you deal with it; are there any labs that (still?) perform this test?
Thanks
