Hi Sarah
One piece of advice I was pleased I stuck to was not to 'go it alone' I
invited 3 vendors into college to face a squad of 20 staff. I gave them all
(staff) a 'criteria list' based on the good ole' BECTA model but really
asked them to give the vendors a hard time. This was preceeded by asking
them all to open guest accounts on various sites to get the feel. I also
invited a couple of local colleges along to take advantage of the demo's,
this gave us different attitudes of 'attack'. Most vendors will be pleased
to come along and demonstrate- please remember- its yer money they are
after... it's their business after all. It also helped to let the staff
know the approximate cost of these items, when they realise how much it
costs they really get into the 'spirit' of things.
Try to act as 'devils advocate' at these events so as not to influence
staff -regardless of your personal preference- I did, but I always find
being awkward so very easy!
Hope this helps

Subject: questions or criteria
Hi All,
I have been reading the postings from this group for a while now and
wondered if anyone with experience of investigating MLEs and VLEs used a
standard set of questions/criteria for assessing how appropriate any one
particular system was?
This may have been in relation to required investments, technology,
licensing, learner tracking, funding etc etc.
I'd appreciate any advice or guidance as my organisation is looking at this
through fairly 'fresh' eyes.
thanks
Sarah Turnbull
