Dear Terry and All,
Terry is right to suspect that it is about time for another doctoral
conference.
This conference will probably take place next year at Chiba University in
Japan, organized by Prof. Kazuo Sugiyama.
The decision to hold Common Ground in 2002 means that the next doctoral
conference was pushed forward a year. It should be noted that many of the
themes from the conferences in Ohio and La Clusaz also appear on the
program at Common Ground.
There may ALSO be a conference coming up in Europe to explore specific
issues in doctoral education clustered around methods and methodology.
The organizers of each will be putting announcements forward. In the
meantime, I encourage everyone to save September for the first world
conference of the Design Research Society -- Common Ground.
Best regards,
Ken Friedman

"I feel the design research discourse has moved on substantially as a result
of the Ohio and La Clusaz conferences and the work of contributors such
as Clive. The upshot is that much of the theory and analyses that were
presented in these conferences is now out of date. It's probably time
for another conference . . ."
