LOCH LOMOND AND THE TROSSACHS INTERIM COMMITTEE (www.lochlomond-

The Loch Lomond and the Trossachs Interim Committee covers an area of 520
square miles of outstandingly beautiful and heavily visited countryside,
soon to become 680 square miles as Scotland’s first National Park. The
Interim Committee has been established to pave the way for the National
Park and as part of these preparations wishes to appoint the following
staff member. This appointment will be for an initial period until summer
2002 or for the lifetime of the Interim Committee, whichever is longer. It
is anticipated that this post will transfer to the National Park Authority
in due course, in accordance with pending legislative processes.

The Interim Committee is currently putting the necessary systems in place
to allow the forthcoming National Park Authority to take over its
anticipated statutory planning responsibilities. To assist in this task
and to support these systems when up and running, a new Technician post has
been created. The post-holder will also be required to assist other staff
in maintaining the organisation’s OS data, providing for mapping
requirements, developing the geographic information base through accurate
digitising work and data capture and develop/ manage other planning related
databases.
Applicants must therefore have a planning or cartographic/ topographic
qualification (at least to HNC/HND standard) and preferably a GIS-related
qualification; a clear understanding of the statutory planning system, and
the development control process in particular; at least 2 years experience
of, and a high level of competence in, working with computer-based planning
application record handling systems and a recognised GIS software package,
with experience of using Uniform and ArcView highly desirable; be able to
adapt to a significant and varied workload within an evolving organisation;
and have creative design and analytical skills to present complex
information and prepare attractive documents/ presentation material
(experience of DTP packages would be advantageous). Technical membership
