It has been a while since I've seen Moulin Rouge so it's not so fresh in my mind but I do remember liking it very much which surprised. The little bits of music that
I heard going into it did not rock my world but the trailers I saw piqued my interest. More than anything I was curious how they could reconcile turn of the century paris with 21 century repackaged 70's disco. The answer is they didn't. They just didn't bother. They threw everything into the pot. I have not been a big Luhrmann fan. I thought his Romeo + Juliet was an affront to, well, just about everything that movie referenced (Shakespeare, film, theater, Miami)but one thing I do give him credit for his unwavering vision. Clearly he knows what he wants. I do agree with the feeling that he uses coke commercial production value at times but I am not sure about the critique of the editing. I remember reading an interview I think it was with Nicole Kidman. She was complaining about how exhaustive Luhrmann was, how coverage was all he was about, but who knows? She may have been told to say that. I'll have to watch it again with the editing in mind.
