Rethinking French Cinema: The Detective Film

The next in this series of popular Saturday events devoted to
Rethinking French Cinema at the NFT focuses on one of France's
most enduringly popular genres, the detective film. It includes
screenings of Julien Duvivier's expressionistic Simenon adaptation,
LA TETE D'UN HOMME (1932) and Jacques Becker's portrait of
ageing gangster Max (Jean Gabin) in his classic TOUCHEZ PAS
AU GRISBI (1954). The screenings will be introduced by Ginette
Vincendeau (University of Warwick) and Valerie Orpen, and
followed by discussion.
