Patient had an oestradiol implant started in 1993 - 100 mgs every 6 - 9
months. In July 1999 this was reduced to 50 mgs and this was also the date
of the last implant. In February '01 the patient had an oophrectomy,
following which the oestradiol level was 968 pmol/l. At that time the FSH
was 6.5 mIU/ml, LH 5.6 mIU/ml. Subsequent oestradiol has been 12/3/01 -
952, 1/5/01 -708, 5/7/01 - 763, 2/1/02 - 454, 10/2/02 - 471 pmol/l (650 by M
Diver, Liverpool).
25/11/02 -584 pmol/l with FSH 9.6 mIU/ml, LH 12.1 mIU/ml. I was told that
oestradiol from these implants can concentrate in the body fat, and take a
long time to leak out, though in the present case it seems to have supported
a high level for a long time. Is this still a reasonable explanation? We use
Immulite, as well as M Diver, Liverpool checking a sample, we have also
checked with Delfia.
