We discussed this attack on the Radstats list earlier. Given below is the
outcome of another discussion - on the European Sociologist list.
If you agree with the message you could forward a copy to the Israeli PM,
his Defence Minister, and to the Central Bureau of Statistics (Israel).
All the necessary addresses are included below, except those of the CBS
(Israel).
The CBS (Israel)website gives the email addresses of <[log in to unmask]> and
<[log in to unmask]>. It might be counter-productive for members of the
european sociologist with 800 or so members to overwhelm these mailboxes
with messages. But it would not be inappropriate for members of this list,
because there are only 300 of so of us, and because of the professional
interest in common, to also send copies of the petition to the Israeli CBS
addresses.
Sincerely
Ray Thomas

Here is a petition concerning the sacking of the Palestine Central

it, please send a message to the Prime Minister's address and a

As professional social scientists, aware of the crucial role of
information (data) in social and economic development, scientific
analysis and not least in university teaching, we deplore the attack
by the Israeli Defense Force on the Palestine Central Bureau of
Statistics
(PCBS) on December 5, 2001 and the destruction of equipment and
data held by this institution.
We call on colleagues in the international community of social
scientists around the world to add their names to ours, and to call
upon the Israeli government and military authorities to apologize,
immediately return all census- related documents and computer files,
and to provide some form of restitution.
As a positive measure, we also call upon the Israel Central Bureau of
Statistics to embark on a development of a collegiate relationship and
cooperation with the Palestine Bureau of Statistics
