Dear colleagues,
I have a special acute interest in the design of the design
university organization, and especially the ability to empower and
grow new developments.
I am trying to get a quick overview of the research and literature
concerning the design of organizations. I would greatly appreciate a
few key pointers to authors/resources/articles that you have found
insightful.
I understand that a lot of such material will be found in business
management, but I am especially trying to find material that 1)
discusses the topic as a design problem, and/or 2) tries to
accommodate also non-business organizations.
What are the key points in your opinion, especially in the case of
design universities? How to nurture innovation and the emergence of
new competence areas? How to grow new things into significant core
activities? How to negotiate the relationship between new and
emerging activities and established "production oriented" activities?
How to combine them? What kind of units should manage their own
resources? What kinds of interest conflicts should be avoided through
organizational design? I'd be very happy to hear of experiences, both
good and bad.
...if you can help, please respond off-line if you feel it is
off-topic for the PhD list...
Thank you,
kari-hans
