Dear all,
Our phlebotomists are telling us they are having problems from patients presenting to them for Lithium TDM. They do NOT want them to attend in the morning when the phlebotomy suite is very busy because their behaviour upsets others. Unfortunately they will be at 12h post dose at 0900h in the morning (since they take their dose at 2100h the previous day).
This situation has only recently arisen with the advent of "booked appointments" Previously the Lithium patients tended to be bled in the afternoon (which was better for the phlebotomists as its much quieter then). So previously the TDM was NOT 12h post dose. Perhaps we should have audited this before.
Should Li be monitored 12h post dose or can a later time (eg 18h post dose) be used?
Many thanks for your help
Seasons greetings
