Just a thought but
might there also be a (visual) connetion between the diurnal (sp ?) cycle
and the Wheel of Fortune ? Where the Man on the Up is at 9am (= Tierce); the
Triumphant Man is at 12 noon (= Sext); the Falling Man is at 3pm (Nones);
and the Fallen Man is at 6pm (Compline). There is a (half of ) a nice
painting of this image surviving in Rochester Cathedral (UK)
