CALL FOR PAPERS
Berlin: The Symphony Continues
The sudden fall of the Berlin Wall is one of the defining images of the
late twentieth century. The subsequent unification of Germany and the
decision to return Berlin to its status as capital has made the
transformations within the city a matter of public interest. In the media,
Berlin is portrayed not as a city that is, but as city that is
always "becoming." More than 10 years beyond unification is an appropriate
time to explore the image that the "new Berlin" has tried to project for
itself, the debates that helped define this image, and the ways that
literature and the other arts have responded to the city's ever-changing
image.
We seek contributions for an anthology that will examine from a variety of
perspectives the various dialogues on Berlin that have grown out of the
historical events since 1989. In addition to contributions on literature
and film, we welcome contributions on art, media and journalism, music,
architecture, urban studies, history and political science.
Interested parties should send a 2-page abstract to all three editors via e-
mail only by January 1, 2002. The editors will make their decisions by
April 30, 2002. Completed manuscripts will be due by October 15, 2002.
