Possibly some way off-topic, but it might just be of interest to some
list-members, or people those members meet at Christmas Parties, to know
that there is a Swansea-based full time (2 year fixed term) post on offer
with the Anglo-Norman Dictionary.
Details at http://www.anglo-norman.net/job.html
It does require a high-level knowledge of French, but, beyond that, might be
of interest to anyone wanting experience of the digitisation of medieval
texts, or of computerised lexicography in any language. Confidence and
generic competence in IT is also essential, but we aren't expecting previous
XML expertise, just a capacity and willingness to acquire it.
In case the job title "Technical Support Officer" frightens people off even
before they see the salary, let me stress that this title is merely there to
allow the job to be given an appropriate internal categorisation. It has
nothing to do with "tech support" of the "help, I've forgotten my password!"
variety. The "support" consists mainly in doing scanning, post-editing and
markup of Anglo-Norman documents in accordance with project guidelines, so
that the Editors can get on with editing and I can get on with keeping that
technological cutting-edge finely honed.
