I am currently carrying out research into the actual effects of a low
carbohydrate diet, high in fats & protein, on general health. My particular
interest covers blood pressure, blood glucoses, LDL cholesterol,
triglyserides and maintained weight reduction.
Much of the accepted knowledge would suggest that many of the above would
be adversely affected by a diet high in fats. However, I continually learn
of individuals with greatly reduced readings along with a dramatic increase
in general well being. Some claim to have been advised by their GP’s to try
a low carbohydrate program such as Atkins or Barry Grooves. I must assume
that many health professionals are coming across low-carbohydrate evidence
on a regular basis whether it is positive or negative.
The 1997 Health Survey for England finds well over 50% of the population to
be overweight with nearly 20% obese. It is therefore essential to study the
alternatives to the conventional low calorie approach as a matter of
urgency.
To assist me I would ask that if any health professional members have
actual cases showing evidence of side effects or alternatively improvements
in health. Please send me the relevant details by e-mail at
LC_Evidence.msn.com or post here if preferred.
I appreciate that this is a busy time for us all but I am working hard to
keep this research moving forward.
Thank You
