Dear colleagues,
here in Leeds we've had a free, centrally run "Books On Cassette" service
for many years, but only for customers unable to use printed books. We are
now about to pilot 2 public access collections, for which we propose to
charge hire charges.
We'd be very interested in hearing views on the following, from anyone who
currently has such Talking Books/ Books on Cassette collections -
Do you have abridged versions, or non-abridged, or a mixture?
What sort of material issues well? Light/ bestselling fiction? Shakespeare?
Poetry? Classics?
What formats do you have - cassettes, CDs, or a mix? Which is most
successful?
What sort of storage do you use?
How do you handle security?
Last but not least what are your loan periods, and hire charges if any?
Thanks,
Judith Rhodes
